SCHIZENCEPHALYBy bala chandranHistory: A one year old child was referred for evaluation of congenital hemiparesis. Findings:
:: MRI 1 ::T2Waxial MR image shows the open type of schizencephaly.
:: MRI 2 ::T1W axial image shows the open type of schizencephaly
:: MRI 3 ::FLAIR sequences showing the csf like fluid in the cyst.
:: MRI 4 ::T2Wcoronal image shows the heterotropic gray matter lining the cyst. Discussion: One year old male child was referred for evaluation of right side hemiparesis.Ctanial ultrasonography revealed a cystic collection in left cerebral hemisphere.with mild ventriculomegaly.MR examination was performed on 1.0 Tesla ( SIEMENS ) closed MR unit. The child was sedated and under the supervision of an anaesthetist MR imaging was done .Fast imaging protocols were used except for FLAIR sequence. M.R. imaging confirmed the unilateral open-lip schizencephaly .The dilated body of left lateral ventricle was communicating with a large C.S.F.-like fluid collection in left cerebral hemisphere. The communication was extending from ependymal surface of ventricle upto the cerebral coertical surface. The fluid collection was lined by heterotopic graymatter. There was no other nervous system anomaly. Differential diagnosis: Porencephalic cyst Diagnosis confirmation: Imaging including endoscopy Category: Neuro Region / Organ: Head-Brain and brain nerves Etiology: congenital References: 1. Karen Y.
